Quran vs Terrorism

This article provides evidence that terrorism is against the teachings of the Quran. Though they may believe that they are righteous, groups like ISIS reflect disbelief in the Quran.

Terrorists Advocate Violence

ISIS is a worldwide group which terrorizes innocent people with an aggressive and forceful approach. The Quran teaches us that people who impose this behaviour will be punished.

The wrong ones are those who treat the people unjustly and resort to aggression without provocation. These have incurred a painful retribution.

~ Quran 42:42

Say "My Lord prohibits only evil deeds be they obvious or hidden and sins and unjustifiable aggression and to set up beside God powerless idols and to say about God what you do not know."

~ Quran 7:33

God does not support those who instigate corruption on earth

ISIS are capturing towns and enslaving women, telling innocent people that the only way of religion is their way, and then killing some of them. The corrupters are unrighteous in the eyes of God, and they will suffer the retribution.

We reserve the abode of the Hereafter for those who do not seek exaltation on earth, nor corruption. The ultimate victory belongs to the righteous.

~ Quran 28:83

Whoever works righteousness receives a far better reward. As for those who commit sins, the retribution for their sins is precisely equivalent to their works.

~ Quran 28:84

Evicting each other from their homes is prohibited in the Quran

Islamic State are entering homes and stealing their possessions, land and women by force and murdering their men. This proves that ISIS are disbelievers of the worst kind.

We made a covenant with you that you shall not shed your blood nor shall you evict each other from your homes. You agreed and bore witness.

~ Quran 2:84

This incidence happened in the past but is now being repeated by ISIS.

Yet here you are killing each other and evicting some of you from their homes banding against them sinfully and maliciously. Even when they surrendered you demanded ransom from them. Evicting them was prohibited for you in the first place. Do you believe in part of the scripture and disbelieve in part? What should be the retribution for those among you who do this, except humiliation in this life and a far worse retribution on the Day of Resurrection? God is never unaware of anything you do.

~ Quran 2:85

Believers must enter homes respectfully

Believers are taught to enter homes only with permission from its inhabitants, and with a blessed greeting.
O you who believe do not enter homes other than yours without permission from their inhabitants and without greeting them. This is better for you that you may take heed.

~ Quran 24:27

If you find no one in them do not enter them until you obtain permission. If you are told "Go back" you must go back. This is purer for you. God is fully aware of everything you do.

~ Quran 24:28

When you enter any home you shall greet each other a greeting from God that is blessed and good. God thus explains the revelations for you that you may understand.

~ Quran 24:61

Grossness of murder is evident from these verses

If ISIS knew that killing one person is equal to killing the whole of mankind, they would not risk a terror attack.

His ego provoked him into killing his brother. He killed him, and ended up with the losers.

~ Quran 5:30

Because of this, we decreed for the Children of Israel that anyone who murders any person who had not committed murder or horrendous crimes, it shall be as if he murdered all the people. And anyone who spares a life, it shall be as if he spared the lives of all the people. Our messengers went to them with clear proofs and revelations, but most of them, after all this, are still transgressing.

~ Quran 5:32

You shall not kill - God has made life sacred

~ Quran 6:151

ISIS clearly disbelieves in the revelations of the Quran

Believers are commanded to keep peace between each other and God gives believers no excuse to fight disbelievers if they refrain from fighting. Terrorists actions are against what the Quran says, proving they are disbelievers.

Exempted are those who join people with whom you have signed a peace treaty and those who come to you wishing not to fight you nor fight their relatives. Had God willed He could have permitted them to fight against you. Therefore if they leave you alone refrain from fighting you and offer you peace then God gives you no excuse to fight them.

~ Quran 4:90

Although this was at the time of Muhammad, he has set the example for today's generation. We know that ISIS group are evicting people from their homes and forcing the religion on us. In actual fact, God commands the believers not to support those who fight in these circumstances.

God does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. God loves the equitable.

~ Quran 60:8

God enjoins you only from befriending those who fight you because of religion evict you from your homes and band together with others to banish you. You shall not befriend them. Those who befriend them are the transgressors.

~ Quran 60:9

Freedom of Religion

ISIS are forcing people to believe in their way of Islam, but the Quran is clear that belief in religion is freedom of choice and that it should not be forced.

Had your Lord willed all the people on earth would have believed. Do you want to force the people to become believers?

~ Quran 10:99

Proclaim: "This is the truth from your Lord," then whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve.

~ Quran 18:29

Even though Jews and Christians are a target for terrorists, the Quran teaches believers from any religion who worship God alone will attain salvation; therefore believers must be respectful towards them.

Surely, those who believe, those who are Jewish, the converts, and the Christians; any of them who believe in God and believe in the Last Day, and lead a righteous life, have nothing to fear, nor will they grieve.

~ Quran 5:69

ISIS brutally interrogate people, but believers are to invite to God in the kindest manner.

You shall invite to the path of your Lord with wisdom and kind enlightenment and debate with them in the best possible manner. Your Lord knows best who has strayed from His path and He knows best who are the guided ones.

~ Quran 16:125

If ISIS change their ways then God may forgive them, but they cannot continue tormenting innocent people and forcing the religion on them, as they are abusing God’s law.

Believers greet each other with Peace

This is another fact that the so called Muslims (ISIS) do not do, because they kill the people who offer peace to them.
When those who believe in our revelations come to you, you shall say "Salamun `Alaykum” (Peace be upon you). Your

Lord has decreed that mercy is His attribute. Thus anyone among you who commits a transgression out of ignorance and repents thereafter and reforms then He is Forgiving Most Merciful.

~ Quran 6:54

If ISIS repent and reform than God is Most Forgiving, but they need to stop the butchery and offensive behaviour. 17:38: All bad behaviour is condemned by your Lord.

ISIS group are not righteous believers

ISIS walk the earth with arrogance and pride, while believers are humble. From these verses it becomes apparent ISIS are the opposite to righteous believers.

While those who disbelieved were enraged and their hearts were filled with the pride of the days of ignorance God blessed His messenger and the believers with peaceful contentment and directed them to uphold the word of righteousness. This is what they well deserved. God is fully aware of all things.

~ Quran 48:26

You shall not treat the people with arrogance nor shall you roam the earth proudly..

~ Quran 31:18

The worshipers of the Most Gracious are those who tread the earth gently and when the ignorant speak to them they only utter peace.

~ Quran 25:63

When they come across vain talk they disregard it and say "We are responsible for our deeds and you are responsible for your deeds. Peace be upon you. We do not wish to behave like the ignorant ones."

~ Quran 28:55

God does not guide the idol worshippers

Idol worship (worship of masters, religious scholars, prophets, leaders; obeying someone other than God by His Word) is strictly forbidden in the Quran. Thus ISIS are promoting idol worship by following their leaders and masters who are fabricating lies about Islam.

God does not forgive idolatry but He forgives lesser offenses for whomever He wills. Anyone who sets up idols beside God has forged a horrendous offense.

~ Quran 4:48

The day they are thrown into Hell they will say "Oh we wish we obeyed God and obeyed the messenger." They will also say “Our Lord we have obeyed our masters and leaders but they lead us astray.”

~ Quran 33:66-67

The following verses prove that terrorists show the common traits of the disbelievers in the sight of God:

God does not love those who are arrogant. 28:76
God does not love the unjust. 3:57
God does not love those who are boastful proud. 57:23
God does not love the aggressors. 2:190
God does not love the corruptors. 28:77
God does not love the betrayers. 8:58
God does not love the disbelievers. 3:32
God does not guide the wicked people. 9:24
God does not guide the transgressing people. 9:109
God does not guide the evil people. 61:7

Relevance to a specific time in history

These verses regarding violence are specific to the time of Muhammad when he was at war with the disbelievers. If ISIS truly do believe they are obeying God and acting in accordance with the Quran, they have distorted the words out of context without understanding the correct context in which they were written in.

Verse 8:12 is referring to the Battle of Badr: God gives believers the upper-hand:

Recall that your Lord inspired the angels: "I am with you; so support those who believed. I will throw terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved. You may strike them above the necks and you may strike even every finger."

~ Quran 8:12

*... strike even every finger... this emphasises the fact that if the fingers are injured the disbelievers will not be able to hold the weapons.

This is what they have justly incurred by fighting God and His messenger. For those who fight against God and His messenger God's retribution is severe.

~ Quran 8:13

God has granted you victory at Badr despite your weakness. Therefore you shall observe God to show your appreciation.

~ Quran 3:123

The only criterion under which fighting is allowed: Self-Defense

These verses reference to time of war,  but they are included to show that believers are only to fight in self-defense.

You may fight in the cause of God against those who attack you but do not aggress. God does not love the aggressors.

~ Quran 2:190

You may kill (those who wage war against you) and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder. Do not fight them at the Sacred Masjid unless they attack you therein. If they attack you, you may kill them. This is the just retribution for those disbelievers. If they refrain then God is Forgiver Most Merciful.

~ Quran 2:191-192

Even during open war, believers are to offer protection to the disbelievers and let them hear the word of God.

Although this verse has significance to the time of war, there is a lesson in this that even at the worst of times we are to still share the word of God to the opponent. The actions of ISIS evidently argue against this.

If one of the idol worshipers sought safe passage with you, you shall grant him safe passage so that he can hear the word of God then send him back to his place of security. That is because they are people who do not know.

 ~ Quran 9:6

God commands believers to fight against disbelievers:

The reason for this is to hope they will submit to God, confirming that some verses regarding fighting do not mean to physically fight.

You shall fight back against those who do not believe in God nor in the Last Day nor do they prohibit what God and His messenger have prohibited nor do they abide by the religion of truth - among those who received the book - until they pay the due reparation with willing submission and feel themselves subdued.

~ Quran 9:29

This verse also suggests that we should fight against groups like ISIS as they are not upholding the true religion of Islam. This article is an example of “fighting back”.

Believers encourage righteous works

They believe in God and the Last Day they advocate good and forbid evil and they hasten to do good works. These are among the good.

~ Quran 3:114

Believers treat people with a kind nature

Tell My servants to treat each other in the best possible manner for the devil will always try to drive a wedge among them. Surely the devil is man's most ardent enemy.

~ Quran 17:53

These verses indicate true believers in the eyes of God:

You shall maintain justice; God loves those who are just. 49:9
God loves the good doers. 3:148
God loves the righteous. 3:76
God loves those who are benevolent. 5:13
God loves those who are equitable. 5:42
God loves the charitable. 2:195
God loves the steadfast. 3:146
God loves those who trust in Him. 3:159
God loves those who purify themselves. 9:108
God loves the repentant 2:222

Believers will recognize that this is the truth

Believers will not deny the fact that ISIS are proven disbelievers in the sight of God, and that the terrorist group clearly disbelieves in the revelations of the Quran.

Those who are blessed with knowledge will recognize the truth from your Lord then believe in it and their hearts will readily accept it. Most assuredly God guides the believers in the right path.

~ Quran 22:54
